SENS N°364 – December 2011 – Holiness and the Sacred

SENS #364

During the year 2009/2010, the AJC group of Mulhouse offered a series of five lectures to its members on the theme “Holiness and the Sacred. ” These are the texts published in this issue. Gabriel Attias discusses the concept of “holiness” in Judaism. Jacques Goetschel studies the “Jewish practices of holiness” through worship and prayer. Frederic Rognon starts from an etymological investigation and discusses biblical and anthropological notions of “holiness” and “sacred”, showing how the two are complementary and in tension within what he calls a dialectical reading. The two last lectures are signed by Christian Grappe. The Theologian explores the position of Jesus in front of “purity” and the meaning Paul gives to the notion of “sanctification” in the Epistle to the Romans and the first Epistle to the Corinthians.

In addition, Sens published a series of book reviews gathered under the headings : “Beautiful Books” and “Bible”.
